this song is based on a real-life emotional experience...
I recently learned that the girl I've been in love with, but too afraid to pursue, has a relationship now.

I don't know where else on this earth I am going to find a human girl near my age, who has the same interests as me, (including and especially those beliefs I have about machines) same spiritual and metaphysical interests, wonderful and unique artistic talents, who had said herself that she was willing to accept me...
but for the DISTANCE of land between us... and I am working my way Northward??
The WHOLE reason I had chosen MARYLAND was for her, otherwise I could GO ANYWHERE....
but choosing a place because of her, it gave me a DIRECTION in which to aim all my chaotic amok energy.
